About the artist

Martyn Turner is a political cartoonist and writer. His cartoons have appeared in the Irish Times since 1971, daily since 1976.

Born in 1948 in Wanstead, Essex, he grew up in the London bit of Essex and was educated at Bancroft's School, Woodford, Essex and then at the Queen's University of Belfast.

Around 1970, he began drawing professionally for the Sunday News in Belfast. Upon graduation, he joined the Belfast independent political  and cultural review Fortnight where he later became editor. In 1976 he moved to Co. Kildare and became the political cartoonist at the Irish Times, where he still draws 4 cartoons a week and is allowed to occasionally write.

As well as the Irish Times he has contributed, at one time or another, to almost all of the British broadsheets. His cartoons are syndicated in Europe by Courrier International and everywhere else by The New York Times Syndicate.

He has published 17 books of cartoons and articles.
